There are a new set of requirements for learning emerging in the workplace, and a host of new tools that are changing the landscape of e-learning. With the rise of Web 2.0, the advent of social networking, blogs, wikis and other new and exciting tools, the nature of what we do, not just where we do it, is transforming. The challenge for managers and practitioners of training, or business managers overall, is how to adjust both the perceptions and practices of e-learning to fit this new reality.

How should learning 2.0 – incorporating informal workplace learning and Web 2.0 tools – be integrated into more “traditional” training and e-learning systems? How should organizations change as a result of these new innovations? What will it take to sell everyone, including front-line workers, first-line supervisors and senior management on these new approaches? With more than 30 years experience in the field, Marc Rosenburg (www.marcrosenburg.com) will provide a unique perspective into the changing nature of our role, and what others expect.

In this session, Mike Mears, a published author, speaker and trainer on leadership development, will discuss new thinking about leadership and how new philosophies and strategies are reshaping leadership development.

Is being a great leader as hard as dieting?  After two weeks of practice, will behaving like a great leader for 15 minutes a day make you a great leader?
From a brain science perspective, why do the 6 leadership levers that all great leaders use inspire us to higher performance?  And what’s going on in our heads when bad leaders pull a different set of levers and drive us to distraction?

Staying competitive and advancing your career has never been more challenging.  Today’s professionals need every advantage they can muster.  One way to gain an edge is to have a career portfolio.   They can be used to get a new job, but also to receive a good evaluation with your current employer and possibly a promotion.  Career portfolios provide you with proof of performance that documents your knowledge, skills and abilities, far better than your resume...they demonstrate your value to an organization or a client.

This workshop will show participants how to take a step-by-step approach to create and use a career portfolio.  Workshop topics include:

    • Clarifying career goals
    • Identifying skills and competencies in demand
    • Documenting career accomplishments
    • Matching accomplishments to competencies and professional standards
    • Identifying and documenting workplace accomplishments
    • Using career portfolios in job searches and interviews
    • Creating electronic or e-portfolios
    • Using portfolios with social media to promote yourself
    • Leveraging  volunteer opportunities to create artifacts
    • Identifying common mistakes in career portfolios and how to avoid them
    • Using career portfolios even if you're not actively looking for a job
    • Applying career portfolios in the employee performance appraisal

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

    • Describe what a portfolio is
    • List the reasons to have a portfolio
    • List the contents of a portfolio
    • Write their top career related or job accomplishments
    • Identify professional & employer standards
    • Link their career artifacts to professional standards
    • Document their career accomplishments
    • Format their career portfolio
    • Identify options for creating an electronic portfolio
    • Create a personal career action plan

New findings about the brain are helping us better understand the behavior of good leaders – their reactions to stressful work situations, how they relate to employees, and how they promote lasting change. Join leadership coach Suzanne Kryder to explore new research about the brain and how it offers practical steps to improve your leadership skills and foster better relationships with your boss, colleagues, and direct reports. Practice a brain-based tool for being less reactive in challenging situations and improving your effectiveness.

    Objectives:

By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:

    1. Understand the universal challenge of leading others through the lens of recent findings about the natural negativity of the brain.

    2. Explain how neuroplasticity---the brain's ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections---could help leaders influence behavior in themselves and their followers.

    3. Practice a brain-based tool that has been shown to enhance creativity, resilience, and behavior change.
