Coaching SIG

Purpose

The purpose of the Coaching Special Interest Group (SIG) is threefold:

  • To provide a community where those interested in the coaching field can come together to discuss and share experiences
  • To provide a forum for learning new and different aspects of the emerging coaching field
  • To provide a focus for professional growth and development

Coaching is a broad field that includes Executive Coaching, Developmental Coaching, Life Coaching, Career Coaching, Special Issues Coaching and many other coaching areas.

Our efforts are focused on serving the coaching needs and interests of our members. This is often centered around general areas such as the Identification & Discussion of Tactical and Strategic Issues; Learning & Sharing Coaching Models, Techniques and Strategies; Exploring Ethical and Boundary Issues; Improvement of Knowledge; and Identification of Resources.

Practicing coaches, those in transition, and those seeking to learn more about coaching are encouraged to join us.  All are welcome.  Attendence is free.

This SIG meets regularly from 7:00 - 9:00 PM on the first Tuesday of each month at Bethesda Regional Library, 7400 Arlington Rd. Bethesda, MD 20814.           Tel: 240-777-0970.

Upcoming Event

Topic: Vocal Presence: The Essential Element in Leadership Presence

Presenter: Kari Uman

Vocal presence is a new lens through which coaches can increase their awareness of the important link between voice and presence. It is essential for leaders to align their message and intention and communicate it vocally in order to be seen as authentic and having integrity. Through experiencing a set of vocal exercises, coaches will learn how to listen to the different qualities of their own and clients' voices and be able to strengthen their leadership presence.

Kari Uman has two passions in her life: singing and coaching. She has spent many years looking for a way to combine these two and has finally discovered a methodology she has adapted to use with leaders called VocalPresence.

The VocalPresence methodology is an essential element of her coaching. It helps leaders align their voice and intention to bring more power and consistency to their message. This methodology works particularly well with women executives to help them cultivate and demonstrate a strong professional presence, create a more positive self-image, and develop successful vocal and physical behaviors and strategies. In addition to using VocalPresence, Kari coaches leaders to improve interpersonal relationship skills, develop political savvy, and influence more effectively. She attended the Georgetown Leadership Coaching Program and is a certified ICF coach.
